The Quiet Path of Zen

Embracing Zen

The word Zen (禪 / 禅) originates from the Chinese term Chán (禪), which itself comes from the Sanskrit word Dhyāna (ध्यान), meaning meditation or contemplation.

Zen is not something you chase. It is not something to be caught, achieved, or held. It arrives quietly- like the morning mist- when you stop grasping and simply allow.

To live with Zen is to be present- fully, softly, with no urgency to alter what is. It is a space where thoughts fall away, leaving only the breath, the moment, and the quiet hum of existence.

Zen asks for no effort, only awareness- the simple courage to be here, now.

The Stillness Between

A leaf dances in the wind,
Yet the tree does not follow.
It sways, bends, and whispers-
Yet stands unmoved.

The river rushes on,
Yet the stone does not resist.
It waits, quietly shaped
By the gentle passing of time.

And you-
You are the stillness between the breath,
The pause before the next step,
The quiet that rises
When nothing else is needed.

No chasing, no clinging-
Just being.
And somehow, that is enough.

To practice Zen in daily life, embrace simplicity and presence. Focus fully on whatever you are doing- whether eating, walking, or breathing- with calm awareness. Let thoughts come and go like passing clouds, without clinging or resistance. Find stillness in small moments- sipping tea, folding clothes, or pausing in silence. Zen is not about doing more- it is about being fully here, in this moment.

Afterword

Zen is not found in silence alone, nor is it lost in noise. It lives where you are- in your breath, in your steps, in the gentle awareness that follows you through the day.

To live with Zen is not to force calm, but to embrace what is- fully, without judgment. In that quiet acceptance, you will find freedom. And in that freedom, you will know peace.
